The Science on Wheels Educational Center (SONWEC) is committed to offer innovative science experiences and achieve excellence in education at pre-college schools.  Most students in K-12 schools do not have the opportunity to work with hands-on science. SONW provides enlightening scientific and technical activities that promote the development of communication and reasoning skills. While enhancing their interest in science and awaken curiosity in chemistry, biology, geology, physics and mathematics.

The Center implements three main programs: Science on Wheels (SONW), Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE), and Graduate and Undergraduate Students Enhancing Science and Technology in K-12 Schools (GUEST k-12).   The integration of these programs in k-12 schools makes our center able to impact the educational system by implementing several overarching goals:

  • Provide a mechanism to integrate students, parents, and faculty members in the development of science, mathematics, technology innovations (GIS,CBL Sensors), and computer  communications (Internet, Data analysis).

  • Develop and deliver professional activities for “pre-service” and “in-service” science teachers.

  • Increase the number of underserved and at risk students enrolled im Science, Mathematics and Technology programs.

  • Stimulate K-12 educators to improve their curriculum, making the learning experience a rich and rewarding one.

  • Enhance the knowledge of scientific information that is accessible to pre-college students to improve the education in chemistry, biology, geology, physics, and mathematics.
